Well I did something that totally freaked me out. LOL! I gifted 15 of my books to the goodreads group Read It & Reap for honest reviews and I am so glad I did. I really learned so much from this experience. The reviews overall were good. I had one that was bad, but then again it was good because I did learn something from it. A few of them had me laughing because of something that made one reader gag and one telling me I could not, as the author, use the word shitkickers again. I mean it was really kind of cool to see what the readers really liked and what they really hated. After I gifted the book out I was like “what the hell am I doing?” Was I just looking for a confidence killer? As it turned out it wasn’t a confidence killer, but has blazed a fire in me to get this second one done and make it better, make it different.
One thing that a lot of them said in their reviews was that Damon reminded them of a lot of other vampire books out there and I see their point. The latest review I got really hit that point home. So in keeping with the story line with the Protectors I am going to edge toward a different direction I hope will take that sameness away and make it more unique. I feel that this is probably the best thing I have yet to do since I started writing. Every review I have gotten from 5 stars to the 1.5 star has helped me tremendously.
To me, listening to what readers have to say is very important. I have read articles that other authors have written stating they ignore reviews. I don’t agree with that and I don’t think that’s right because how the heck are you going to know if you are connecting with the reader? Of course I write for me because I love doing it, but what really makes me happy is to have someone get excited about what I write and want more. That’s what it’s all about, at least it is to me.
