I hate that I have not posted in a while. I have been busy with work, writing and well I guess I will come out and say it I read a whole book today. Ugh….I needed to be writing, but oh no I started this book and just had to finish it. The book I read is ‘Slammed’ by Colleen Hoover. It is more of a young adult book, but really good.
Okay now on to my post. I am a indie author, aka self published author, and proud of it. For some reason indie authors, indie bands, etc. etc. get a bad wrap and I really don’t understand why. I have done so much research on writing, promoting and publishing that I keep running across negatives about indie authors and I just don’t understand it.
I can honestly say that I have never picked a book to read because it was published by a big publishing house. There are a few things I look for when buying a book.
1. The cover is usually the first thing I look at. Yeap, the dude has to be hot! LOL! Just kidding….not really.
2. Word of mouth.
3. I will scan blurb and then first chapter.
4. All I want is a good story to take me out of my reality for a while. I mean isn’t that why we read?
I do have my few that I read religiously, some indie others and others not. I don’t understand the issue. I really don’t. There are millions of readers in the world. Enough to go around. Some are going to like so and so’s book and some are going to like mine, some are going to like both and some are going to think we all suck.
So give a indie author a chance. You will find some that are not so good and some are great, but isn’t that in anything you read. Everyone has a opinion so let everyone make their own opinion. Being a indie author is hard enough without all the bashing. We do the writing, editing, promoting, freaking out, etc. etc. without a large publisher behind us. Yeah, it is super hard. Would some of us like a publishing house doing some of the work so we can write full time, well yeah. But we make due with the hand were dealt and keep moving forward. I love to write. I love stories. I love to daydream. I love that I now have a outlet that I can share my passion for writing. I have done better than I have every dreamed I would striking out on my own. It has been a awesome experience.
I am going to ask again. Please give an indie author, indie band or anyone else who is striking out on their own for a chance to share their craft a chance. I bet you will be pleasantly surprised. There is a lot of good stuff out there.
Hugs,
Teresa

I promise I wasn’t stalking you. 🙂 Just googled my book to see if there were anymore ‘tweets’ about it and your blog came up. I just want you to know that I am soooo thankful for all you said on the forum yesterday. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I was really shocked to log in to a forum and the first thread there just happened to be about me! 🙁 Oh well, you and so many others really shut them up! I am curious, though….if you finished my book did it change your opinion of all the 5 star reviews? Hope you enjoyed it and I appreciate you buying it…taking the time to validate the claims yourself…and also for reposting it on this blog. You’re AWESOME!!!!!! I don’t know why, but wordpress made me make a new account just to comment. But my website is http://www.colleenhoover.com And when I get my friend to update it, I’m linking your blog to it!!!
Hey Colleen!
You know I just get angry when stuff like this happens. I mean when someone jumps the gun like that without checking things out. I think it’s great you have that many reviews and people are expressing it. It seems like you have to watch everything you do because one person who is jealous, which that seems to be the case, goes crazy. I was curious and figured to judge for myself.
I absolute loved the book. I loved the characters. When that happens I run my big mouth and start talking about it to others. I do read a lot of different things, but I have my favorite genre. That doesn’t mean that I won’t read other stuff.
What we do is very competitive, but to me helping someone out is not going to be the end of me or my book. I would rather help someone than bash them for something that I haven’t even checked out. I’m not much of a basher anyway to be honest.
You have a supporter here, new friend and new reader. Keep doing what you are doing. Reading your book did not change my opinion of the 5 star ratings. I actually gave a review.
I will have my husband AKA web dude check out the posting problem here, thanks for giving me a heads up on it. Do you have a facebook account?
Talk to you soon!!!!
