Taking nothing for granted!!

Welp getting ready to head to bed for the night and get ready for a four day week. Did some writing on Jared’s book tonight. Getting excited about it. Feeling good about it finally. I have been going back and forth on how they meet. I have changed her name from Trisha to Tessa. It just didn’t seem to flow to me with Trisha. So funny how that works.

I got a really special Christmas gift this year from my nephew Caleb. I posted about him in a earlier post. He is a name to watch for. He is writing a book that is too cool. Anyway we were at my in-laws Christmas eve opening presents. I sat more toward the back so I could watch everyone open their gifts. I love to watch everyone’s reactions as they open presents. Caleb’s mom hands one back to me. I open it and it’s a frame with a note. Caleb had written a note to his teacher about me and my book. It is probably the coolest gift I have ever received.

(Note word for word. Tried to scan it in, but was too light and didn’t show up very well.)

Dear Mrs Poor,

My Aunt Teresa is an author. She’s not world renowned….yet! Anywho, she just finished her book, The Protectors Damon. I’m not allowed to read it because of inappropriate language, but I’m pretty sure it’s good. I think you’d like it. On Amazon it’s .99. she even has her own website, “teresagabelman.com” You can find out more info about her on her website. She is thinking about letting me illustrate our upcoming alien and zombie book.

Sincerely,

Caleb

It really hit me and tugged at my heart so much that I sat holding this framed note and watched as a tear slashed on the glass. Yes, my friends, I sat crying with no one knowing because this little boy believed so much in what I was doing that he wrote a note bragging to his teacher about his aunt who is a author who uses inappropriate language. LOL…that was a hoot.

I try so hard not to take things for granted, I really do. My son was born with severe food allergies that are life threatening and asthma that forced him to do breathing treatments four times a day until he was five years old. I learned to take each day he felt good and make the most of it. He is 17 years old and still has food allergies, but growing out of them and the asthma makes a rare appearance these days. I had to stop writing and put things on hold because I was so focused on my son who was my world and still is. I think with everything that has happened from when I first starting writing  to now, that one note written with a sense of pride in me from an eight year old boy hit me hard. It affected me more deeply than my first download to Amazon, by first buy and even my first review.

His mom Michelle looked at me and smiled saying, “I thought that would mean a lot.”

She has no clue.

Caleb came over and patted me on the back. “Aunt Teresa?” Caleb pushed his glasses back up his nose not mentioning my red eyes, his arm around my neck. “When are we going to start on our Alien and Zombie book?”

The framed note is hanging on my wall right smack in front of me when I am writing. Yeah, I take nothing for granted and I obviously need to get Jared’s book done because I have a Alien and Zombie book deadline. 😉

Hugs,

Teresa
